The Municipality of Narra, Palawan, led by Mayor Gerandy B. Danao, formally entered into a strategic partnership with Brunei Darussalam’s Wasan Milling Company Sdn. Bhd. (WMC), represented by its General Manager, Saidin bin Namit, through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) today.
The agreement sets the stage for the preparatory planting phase in Narra, a vital step toward the rollout of a large-scale contract farming program. Under the MOU, WMC will extend critical support by providing farm inputs, technology transfer, and market linkages. The initiative aims to integrate Narra’s rice production into Brunei’s supply chain, directly contributing to Brunei’s food security objectives while strengthening the Philippines’ role in regional agri-trade.

The signing ceremony was witnessed by Vice Mayor Jojo Gastanes, Narra LGU officials, representatives from the Department of Agriculture (DA), the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), and private sector partners. Also present was Her Excellency Megawati Manan, Ambassador of Brunei Darussalam to the Philippines, whose participation underscored the diplomatic and economic importance of the collaboration.
This milestone positions Narra as a key player in the Brunei Darussalam–Indonesia–Malaysia–Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) food security corridor. By fostering cross-border cooperation, the partnership not only enhances resilience and sustainability in the sub-region but also contributes to ASEAN’s broader goal of deeper economic integration and shared prosperity.
