Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force visits Davao port

From March 2 to 4, the Training Division 1 of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) made a port visit to Davao City. 

The visit of JS Shimakaze and JS Asagiri of the JMSDF Training Squadron was part of the Overseas Training Cruise, the purpose of which is to develop midshipmen’s seamanship through various pieces of training at sea, foster their international perspectives, and promote friendly relations with port call countries.

During their visit, the officials and trainees received a warm welcome from their counterparts, the Philippine Navy, and members of the Davao Japanese and Nikkei jin communities.

Ambassador Koshikawa Kazuhiko and CAPT Ueno Yoshiyuki, Commander, Training division 1, held a reception onboard the night before they left Davao, deepening the friendship between Japan and the Philippines, both maritime nations.
