The Manila Electric Company (Meralco), led by Manuel V. Pangilinan, together with its corporate social responsibility arm, One Meralco Foundation (OMF), has energized 179 additional low-income households across four barangays in the City of Manila just in time for the Christmas season.
Meralco and OMF officials joined local government leaders in a lighting ceremony marking the beneficiariesā access to safe and dependable electricity under OMFās Household Electrification Program (HEP).
Manila Mayor Francisco āIskoā Moreno Domagoso, represented by City Administrator Atty. Eduardo P. Quintos XIV, reaffirmed the cityās dedication to expanding access to reliable power. He noted that the electrification effort goes beyond installing power lines, emphasizing its impact on improving residentsā quality of life and empowering communities.
The newly energized homes are located in Barangay 581, Barangays 254 and 107, and Barangay 649 in the Baseco Compound. Before the programās intervention, many households relied on neighbors for electricity through submetering arrangements.
To ensure safer and more affordable electricity while supporting greater productivity, OMFāworking with Meralcoās EspaƱa-Tutuban and Malate Business Centers, and the Manila Sectorāpartnered with the Manila City Government to provide legal and secure power connections for the beneficiary families.
Meralco Senior Vice President, Chief Revenue Officer, and OMF Trustee Ferdinand O. Geluz underscored the programās long-term value, describing HEP as an investment in the future that strengthens families, empowers communities, and supports inclusive and sustainable development.
OMF President Jeffrey O. Tarayao highlighted that the initiative not only provides light but also opens opportunities for beneficiary families, furthering the cityās social development goals. He emphasized the spirit of bayanihan and OMFās commitment to ensuring that no Filipino family is left without access to safe and reliable electricity.
