To recognize the leading sustainability initiatives of businesses and organizations in the Philippines, and to further encourage these best practices, the European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines (ECCP) has launched a call for nominations to its 2023 Europa Awards.

Now entering its 3rd year, the annual Europa Awards celebrates European and non-European companies operating in the country for their exceptional performance and contributions in promoting sustainability in line with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the European Commission’s efforts on the European Green Deal and the Philippine Development Plan.

The 2023 Europa Awards will feature ten categories, including Clean and Green Energy, Digitalization for Sustainability, Energy Efficiency and Conservation, Green and Inclusive Finance Solutions, Green Buildings, Smart and Safer Mobility, Sustainable Agri-Food, Waste Management, Water Resource Management, and Startup for Sustainability.

ECCP Executive Director Florian Gottein expressed his excitement stating, “We would love to hear companies’ innovative solutions and dedication to a greener future. By submitting your entries, you not only have the opportunity to gain well-deserved recognition but also to inspire others with your stories.”

“This year, we are pleased to introduce a new category on ‘Digitalisation for Sustainability’. By leveraging digital technologies, the private sector can make informed decisions, streamline processes, and implement environment-friendly and responsible business practices,” Gottein added.

Interested companies may submit any entry or program that meets the reporting period of sustained impact of operations until 31 December 2022. Additionally, project-based entries must also report impact reaching until 31 December 2022.

The judging criteria for the Awards will be based on four main areas of assessment, namely Sustainability Strategy and Culture, Innovation, Sustainability Partnership, and Sustainability Impact. Submission of entries officially opened last 17 July 2023.

The winners will be honored during the Gala Night on 11 October 2023, marking the first physical awarding ceremony of the Europa Awards. Information on the gala night tickets and partnership opportunities will be posted in the ECCP’s social media pages and event webpage.

Moreover, this year’s Europa Awards will also feature the launch of the Chamber’s 2023 Sustainability Whitebook. The Whitebook draws on the Chamber’s various advocacies and policy recommendations aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals in order to tackle current and emerging sustainability issues, especially those concerning the European-Philippine business community.

Presented annually by the ECCP, the Europa Awards is one of the Chamber’s biggest flagship advocacy events. Since its inception, more than 120 entries have been submitted and with sixteen companies and organizations recognized.
