One Meralco Foundation (OMF), the corporate social responsibility arm of Manuel V. Pangilinan–led Manila Electric Company (Meralco), has brought safe and reliable electricity to 432 additional low-income households in Quezon City, just in time for the holiday season.

The milestone was marked by a lighting ceremony led by Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte, Meralco Head of Customer Retail Services Charina P. Padua, and OMF President Jeffrey O. Tarayao, formally connecting families to legal and dependable power through OMF’s Household Electrification Program.

Mayor Belmonte underscored that access to electricity goes beyond infrastructure, calling it a key enabler of basic human rights and inclusive growth.

“Access to electricity is not just a symbol of progress—it enables dignity, opportunity, and a better quality of life. Meralco’s Household Electrification Program is a vital step forward not only for these families, but for our broader vision of uplifting communities across Quezon City,” Belmonte said in Filipino.

The beneficiaries include residents of Barangays South Triangle and Escopa 3, as well as communities in 185 West Riverside, 24 F. Carlos, Sitio Militar, K-9 Compound, Greenland, and Tumana. Prior to electrification, many households relied on unsafe and informal connections such as submetering or tapping into neighbors’ power lines.

“These families, who once depended on unsafe or illegal connections—or had no access to electricity at all—can now enjoy a safe, reliable, and legal power supply,” Padua said in Filipino. “Together with OMF and the Quezon City government, Meralco remains committed to reaching more families who need dependable electricity.”

The project was made possible through close collaboration among OMF, Meralco’s Kamuning-Roosevelt, Commonwealth-Balintawak, and Novaliches Business Centers, Meralco Balintawak, Pasig, and Valenzuela Sectors, and the Quezon City local government.

To date, OMF has energized more than 80,000 low-income households nationwide, supporting the national government’s goal of achieving 100% household electrification by 2028. Beyond lighting homes, the initiative helps unlock productivity, improve safety, and strengthen economic participation in underserved communities.

“Guided by the spirit of bayanihan, we continue our mission to spread light and opportunity,” said Tarayao. “By bringing electricity to more Filipino families, we help ensure that no household is left behind—and that more communities can look forward to a brighter and more inclusive future.”ca
