The Batangas Forum for Good Governance and Development Association, Inc. has expressed strong support for the proposed joint venture between Manila Electric Company (Meralco) and Batangas II Electric Cooperative (BATELEC II), a partnership expected to significantly improve power quality and reliability in areas currently served by the cooperative.
Composed of business and civic leaders, professionals, and Batangas residents, the group has long raised concerns over recurring power interruptions that disrupt business operations and hinder economic growth in the province.
The Batangas Forum formalized its full endorsement of the joint venture through a resolution dated October 29, 2025, signed by its chairman, president, vice president, and board of trustees.
Citing Meralco’s strong financial standing and proven operational record, the group believes the utility company can provide the systems, investments, and operational discipline necessary to deliver more dependable electricity to local enterprises and communities — as it has successfully done in Batangas City, Sto. Tomas City, and San Pascual.
According to the Batangas Forum, partnerships between the private sector and electric cooperatives like BATELEC II offer practical solutions for infrastructure modernization, system strengthening, and meeting the growing electricity demand of consumers.
BATELEC II currently distributes power to the cities of Lipa and Tanauan, and to 15 municipalities: Alitagtag, Balete, Cuenca, Laurel, Lobo, Malvar, Mataas na Kahoy, Mabini, Padre Garcia, Rosario, San Jose, San Juan, Talisay, Taysan, and Tingloy.
In expressing its support, the Batangas Forum emphasized that the Meralco–BATELEC II joint venture represents a key step toward achieving more efficient and reliable electricity service. The group also urged BATELEC II to ensure employee welfare, uphold fair employment practices, and promote professional growth throughout the transition process.
Finally, the organization called on local government units, the business sector, and communities to back the initiative, stressing the importance of close coordination, transparency, and regular communication with member-consumers regarding updates on the joint venture proposal.
