The Meralco Power Academy (MPA), the training and education arm of the Manuel V. Pangilinan-led Manila Electric Company (Meralco), has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the National Transmission Corporation (TransCo) to advance workforce development in the Philippine power industry.
The agreement outlines a strategic collaboration to co-develop and implement training programs that support Continuing Professional Development (CPD) across the sector. These include short courses, capability-building initiatives, and talent pipeline programs designed to elevate technical expertise and industry readiness.
TransCo President Fortunato Leynes hailed the partnership as a milestone for the power sector and expressed appreciation to Meralco Power Academy for its commitment to upskilling industry professionals. He also commended the efforts of TransCo’s Human Resource Management and Development Division (HRMDD), led by Resource Management Services Group Vice President Maria Theresa L. Laranang, for championing employee capability-building initiatives.
The collaboration will also foster structured knowledge exchange in key areas such as power distribution and other emerging topics in the energy landscape.
For his part, Meralco Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Ronnie L. Aperocho, who also serves as MPA President, stressed that the partnership formalizes a shared vision of raising technical competence and driving innovation across the industry.
“This partnership blends TransCo’s unique national mission with MPA’s specialized role in training and development—a synergy that can make a tangible impact on energy reliability, resiliency, and human capital development,” Aperocho said.
The partnership reinforces the commitment of both institutions to prepare the Philippine power workforce for future challenges and opportunities in the evolving energy sector.
