True to its commitment in caring deeply for the Filipino people and forge closer cooperation between Japan and the Philippines, the recent initiative of the country’s one of the closest allies to provide capacity building support to the Philippine Coast Guard such as on-board boat maneuvering training, fire-fighting training, joint drills, maritime defense process, among others, is a testament of the enduring friendship between two countries.

From August 25 to September 7, the Japan Coast Guard (JCG) provided capacity building support to the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) as part of JICA’s technical cooperation.

The Mobile Cooperation Team (MCT) dispatched by the JCG provided technical guidance to the crew of PCG patrol vessels, including a 97m class patrol vessel and two 44m class patrol vessels (both Japan-provided patrol vessels), concerning onboard boat maneuvering training and firefighting training, which are directly related to field operations.

The Japan government and Japan Coast Guard will continue to provide capacity building support to the Philippine Coast Guard.
