The Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco is hosting “Courage,” an evocative exhibit by celebrated Filipina-American sculptor Elaine Antonio-Bordeaux, running from July 8 to 12, 2024.
This exhibit serves as a powerful tribute to Filipino resilience and bravery, with the centerpiece being the highly anticipated unveiling of sculptures honoring Magdalena Leones, Filipina war heroine during World War II.
Antonio-Bordeaux, known for her profound and compelling works, brings to life the story of Magdalena Leones through her powerful sculptures. Leones, the only Asian woman to receive the Silver Star for her heroism during World War II, played a pivotal role in the resistance movement in the Philippines. Her acts of valor, faith and resilience are immortalized in Bordeaux’s latest masterpiece.
The exhibit, located at the Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco, will feature a series of sculptures depicting themes of courage, sacrifice, and patriotism, reflecting the indomitable spirit of Filipino women. Bordeaux’s artistry not only commemorates historical figures but also inspires contemporary discussions on courage and national pride.
The unveiling ceremony for the relief sculpture of Magdalena Leones will take place on the opening night, July 8, at 5:00 PM.
This event will include remarks from distinguished guests, including representatives from the Philippine government and community leaders. The exhibit is open to the public and offers an opportunity to engage with the artist and gain deeper insights into the stories behind the sculptures.
