The longstanding relations between the UK-PH remains the highlight for the upcoming return of the Great British Festival on the 27th-28th of January 2024 according to Chris Nelson, British Chamber of Commerce Philippines (BCCP) Executive Director/Trustee. The previous Great British Festival 2023 took place on March 25-26 in Bonifacio High Street, Bonifacio Global City which also commemorated the 77th UK-PH diplomatic relations.
“We’re gonna have the Great British Festival… We’re looking for a larger activity and that would obviously highlight major companies such as Standard Chartered, PruLife, HSBC–which are our key members, but also extending beyond that into companies in food, beverage products, and other key areas such as cybersecurity,” Nelson said.
The British Chamber’s goal in further opening up the Philippine market was highlighted during last year’s event which garnered a total of 38 UK companies from different sectors participating including Financial, Food and Beverage, Retail, Autoshow, General Business and Education. The event was filled with programs, activities, and performances that promoted the diverse culture of Britain and other opportunities for collaboration.
Alongside this strengthening trade relations between the UK and the Philippines is the need to reinforce and utilize Free Trade Agreements including the Developing Countries Trading Scheme (DCTS), Joint Economic and Trade Committee (JETCO), and the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) which are also being advocated by the British Chamber. Moreover, the British Chamber also remains committed towards the ease of doing business in the country towards sustainable growth.
