As Cardinal Santos Medical Center (CSMC) kicked off its COVAX program last March 5, the hospital also received 500 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccines last March 6, 2021, and it was CSMC Chief Medical Officer Dr. Zenaida Javier-Uy who was the first person to receive the first jab of AstraZeneca vaccine.
To create awareness on the importance of getting a coronavirus vaccination, last March 3, CSMC held its ceremonial vaccination using Sinovac vaccines at the hospital inoculating 3 medical staff.
In the statement of Cardinal Santos Medical Center, the hospital targets to vaccinate 2000+ staff and 1,900 have already consented to be vaccinated.
“This is a welcome development as we reach the second day of our vaccination program. We all have a role to play in the recovery, not only of our own country but of the whole world. That is why Cardinal Santos Medical Center has committed to vaccinate all of our hospital workers. Having majority of our personnel vaccinated will ensure that the hospital will remain a safe space for healing,“ says CSMC Chief Medical Officer Dr. Zenaida Javier-Uy. “This is also our way of supporting the national government’s efforts to inoculate majority of the country’s population to gain herd immunity.”
The hospital is targeting to inoculate a total of more than 2,000 hospital workers which includes medical doctors, nurses, employees, and contracted staff.
According to Uy, the AstraZenica vaccines will be offered to the hospital workers who are 60 years old and up and those with uncontrolled co-morbidities after obtaining clearance from their Attending Physicians.
“Vaccination of as many people as possible will allow us to put an end to this pandemic,” adds Uy. “We have been in this dark tunnel for too long. That’s why at Cardinal Santos Medical Center, healing begins now.”
