Typhoon Ompong’s (international name: Mangkhut) howling gusty winds and thick cloudsthat hover reaching a diameter of more than 1,000 kilometers and accompanied by heavy rains, have caused the cancellations of 126 international and domestic flights Saturday at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) and Cebu-Mactan International Airport.
The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA)Media Affairs Division of the said 45 international outbound flights were headed to the eastern parts of China and others were bound for South Korea, Japan, the Middle East and Europe.
Flag carrier Philippine Airlines (PAL) has canceled 28 international destinations, according to spokesperson Cielo Villaluna. These are flights to Macau, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Jingjiang, Hangzhou, Chengdu, Xiamen, Haikou and Narita.PAL also has cancelled 23 domestic flights mostly bound for Northern Luzon, including Batanes, Davao, Puerto Princesa and Busuanga.
Meanwhile, Cebu Pacific and subsidiary Cebgo canceled four international and 42 domestic flights. Philippine Air Asia canceled eight domestic destinations, while Skyjet canceled two round trips to Basco and Busuanga.
