Now on its third year, the Embassy of Switzerland in Manila’s “Day of the Future” initiative — in collaboration with SGS Philippines Inc. — continues to spark curiosity and confidence in the next generation of Filipino innovators. Designed to fuel student interest in science, technology, and innovation, the annual project has become a meaningful bridge between young learners and real-world scientific work.
On November 13, SGS welcomed 20 students from Bangkal Senior High School, Makati City, for an immersive learning experience. The group explored science career pathways through skills orientation sessions, a guided laboratory tour, and interactive science booths led by SGS technical experts.

As a global leader in testing, inspection, and certification (TIC) services, SGS ensures that products — from food and gadgets to cosmetics — meet international standards of safety and quality. This mission was highlighted by SGS Philippines Managing Director Cresenciano Maramot in his welcome message, where he underscored the company’s role in building public trust. “When you need to be sure, use SGS for testing, certification, and inspection,” he said.
Maramot also encouraged students to pursue their dreams boldly, stressing the long-term value of education, perseverance, and meaningful connections. His advice: “Be bold, inquisitive, be experimental. Continue building that network, because that’s going to be part of your big network in the future.”
For many participants, the immersion went beyond a simple tour — it became a truly inspiring experience. Grade 12 HUMSS student Maria Jonnalyn Oteda described the day as “wonderful, fabulous, and inspiring.” One message that stayed with her: “It’s okay if you don’t get the work or passion you want immediately. Focus first on building skills and confidence.”

The activity strengthened her interest in science even as she prepares for a future in teaching. Hands-on demos and conversations with laboratory analysts, she said, helped her appreciate the importance of curiosity, communication, and collaboration — values she hopes to pass on to her own students someday.
Oteda added that she looks forward to attending similar programs again. “I’m really excited if magkakaroon po ulit ng ganitong event,” she said.
Indeed, Day of the Future remains a powerful reminder that exposure, mentorship, and real-world engagement shape the country’s next generation of trailblazers. As Maramot told the students: “You are the future. The future is yours.”
