Metro Retail Stores Group Inc. (MRSGI) celebrated a significant leap forward in its expansion endeavors with the inauguration of a distribution center in Santa Rosa, Laguna. The ceremony marked not only the commencement of operations at the facility but also a defining moment for MRSGI’s Luzon growth initiative.

Spanning a modern facility of three hectares, the Metro Distribution Center is dedicated to strengthening MRSGI’s supply chain and servicing its current network of stores, laying the groundwork for the company’s ambitious expansion plans in Luzon over the next five years.

Several advanced features enhance the center’s functionality. These include a selective racking system capable of accommodating pallets up to 5 and 7 high, with a total capacity of up to 20,000 pallet positions, optimizing storage efficiency; 20 inbound and outbound docking areas equipped with dock levelers, ensuring seamless loading and unloading operations; and for security, over 130 CCTV cameras and several laser beam smoke detectors, providing comprehensive safety for personnel and inventory.

Moreover, the distribution center is equipped with solar panel-ready infrastructure, a sustainable initiative that aligns with MRSGI’s commitment to environmental responsibility while reducing its carbon footprint.

In terms of operational capabilities, the distribution center can handle up to 25,000 cases daily for both inbound and outbound processes, resulting in a maximum throughput of 1.5 million cases monthly. This notable capacity effectively supports MRSGI’s extensive network of stores across Luzon and the Visayas.

The distribution center has ample room for future growth, with a designated expansion area within the 10-hectare property. This provision allows MRSGI to accommodate both internal requirements and potential external partners, ensuring flexibility and scalability in its operations.

Mr. Manuel Alberto, Chief Operating Officer of MRSGI, further highlighted the distribution center’s role in MRSGI’s ambitious plan to expand its presence in Luzon, ensuring more communities have access to the quality services and products that Metro is known for, while also contributing to the local economy and providing employment opportunities.

“The significance of this new and modern warehouse transcends more than just logistics. It is the keystone of our ambitious plan to expand our Metro Store presence in Luzon, ensuring not only that more communities have access to the quality services and products that Metro is known for, but also for our company to keep, help, invigorate our local economy and provide employment,” Alberto stated.

The collaborative spirit between government, community leaders, and the private sector was evident throughout the project, with representatives of Laguna Governor Ramil Hernandez, Santa Rosa City Vice Mayor Arcillas, and Pulong Santa Cruz Barangay Captain Christopher Sarmiento present at the ceremony. Alberto expressed gratitude for their support and cooperation, recognizing their role in turning the dream of the new distribution center into a reality.

As part of its strategic initiatives for future growth, MRSGI views the inauguration of the Metro Distribution Center in Santa Rosa, Laguna, as one of many steps in its future-proofing plans. With a focus on innovation and sustainability, MRSGI continues to explore opportunities to enhance its capabilities and strengthen its position as a leading retail provider in the Philippines.
