With the Philippines emerging from the COVID-19 pandemic and starting to sustain the economic recovery momentum in the midst of challenging forecasts such as recession, inflation and uncertainties brought by Russian aggression against Ukraine, the year 2023 has still a lot to offer for the Philippines.
This was the focal point and consensus during the British Chamber of Commerce Philippines 2023 Economic Outlook held last January 24, at the Dusit Thani, Manila, in partnership with Philip Morris International (PMFTC).
During her keynote speech, His Majesty’s Ambassador to the Philippines Laure Beaufils shared her optimism about how Philipinnes’ vision for investment and private-sector-led growth.
“As the UK government, we will seek [to] leverage the tools that we have to play our part in this success story. We have developed a new initiative called British Investment Partnerships that bring together development finance, export finance, programmatic engagement, and technical assistance — in support of increased investment,” Ambassador Beaufils said.
Along with Ambassador Beaufils, honourable speakers were DTI Assistant Secretary Allan Gepty, VP and Head of Research Division from PNB Mr. Alvin Arogo. Joining us via Zoom, on the other hand, were HSBC Economist – ASEAN Aris Dacanay and DPWH Division Chief/Engineer V Engr. Nenita Jimenez for the global outlook and Philippine government key infrastructure projects.
Moderated by Executive Director and Trustee Chris Nelson the panel discussion was also participated by Usec. Ceferino Rodolfo from the Board of Investments.
Last week’s announcement of Diageo’s €225m purchase of Don Papa Rum and Inchcape’s joint venture with CATS motors have proven significant British interests in the Philippines.
Along with British Chamber, Ambassador Beaufils also highlighted the upcoming Great British Festival this March 25 and 26 in the forum that would also celebrate the culture between the UK and the Philippines.
