For Best Eco-friendly Commercial Development and ESG

Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corporation’s Site of the Future was recently conferred the Best Eco-friendly Commercial Development Awardee and the Special Recognition in Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) at the 10th edition of the PropertyGuru Philippines Property Awards recently held at Fairmont Makati.

“On behalf of Pilipinas Shell, thank you for the recognition as we truly shift our gas stations to mobility destinations in line with our net zero ambitions. It is an honor for an energy company like ours to be recognized among distinguished real estate developers,” Pilipinas Shell Vice President and General Manager for Mobility Randy Del Valle said during the awarding ceremony. “We continue to power progress here in the Philippines. Together, let’s continue to move forward in making the future.”

The 10th annual PropertyGuru Philippines Property Awards gave prominence to the best projects, designs, and innovations in the real estate and property development industry throughout the past year. With an independent panel of industry experts and trusted supervisors, the awards program has a reputation for being credible, ethical, fair, and transparent. It is considered the most respected and sought-after real estate industry honors in the country, elevating Filipino excellence in property development, architecture, and design. Pilipinas Shell was the only energy company among the real industry awardees from the Philippines that was recognized during this year’s ceremony.

Pilipinas Shell’s mobility goals are anchored on public safety, comfort and convenience, innovations and technology, policies, and environmental sustainability. Sustainability is embedded in the company’s operations – it is transforming its retail stations to one-stop mobility destinations catering to the different forms of mobility to achieve lower carbon emissions. Inspired by the ever-changing needs of customers, the fast-paced digital revolution, and the shift to more sustainable options, Pilipinas Shell’s winning entry, Site of the Future – Acienda Silang, provides a more customer-centric experience. Launched in September 2021 in Silang, Cavite, this new Mobility Station was created to enhance customer experiences, enabling more forms of transportation while lowering carbon footprint through innovation.

As a pioneering project in the Philippines, the Site of the Future – Acienda Silang is set to become a global blueprint for Shell’s mobility stations. It introduced sustainable features and a new modern design that puts the needs of customers first as a benchmark for the rollout of mobility stations worldwide. It lays the foundations for promoting circular economy, sustainability and inclusive mobility with site features like the dedicated stop-and-go rack where cyclists can park, sit, and dine al-fresco.

As an eco-friendly commercial development, the Site of the Future – Acienda Silang Mobility Station has achieved a 30% reduction in energy consumption versus the same site with the same technology.

Sustainable solutions of the Site of the Future include the installation of solar panels in the canopy, green walls, and a self-irrigating plant wall and rainwater collector that allow the station to use run-off water for the plants in the landscaped areas. The use of light-emitting diodes for the forecourt; store lighting, fascia lighting; and the use of inverter technology and energy-efficient equipment aims to reduce the carbon footprint from store operations. The Acienda Silang Mobility Station’s digital billboards minimize the reliance on paper in printing collaterals. Eco-bricks or up-cycled plastic make up the walls and outdoor chairs and tables. Rain-catchers harvested water for watering plants and flushing toilets. Shell Bitumen FreshAir asphalt offers a 40% reduction in the levels of sulfur oxides, nitrogen oxides, volatile organic compounds, particular matter, and carbon monoxide during application. Finally, the use of grass-crete, a type of concrete with grass implant, provides cooler ambiance to customers as soon as they park in front of the store.

Acienda Silang is the first Site of the Future in the Philippines. Pilipinas Shell has expanded this new design to two more stations in Shell Mahogany Tagaytay City and Shell North Gateway, Mandaue City, Cebu Province, which is the first in the Visayas region. Pilipinas Shell is set to build three more stations as part of the first phase of the Site of the Future pilot in the country.

Through Pilipinas Shell’s “Site of the Future” in Silang, Cavite, the energy company demonstrates its commitment to its mobility goals, which are anchored on public safety, comfort and convenience, innovations and technology, policies, and environmental sustainability.

The Pilipinas Shell Site of the Future features sustainable solutions like solar panels in the canopy, eco-bricks, green wall grass-crete, rain-catcher, light-emitting diodes, inverter technology, and energy-efficient equipment that aims to reduce the carbon footprint from store operations.

The 10th PropertyGuru Philippines Property Awards is part of the regional PropertyGuru Asia Property Awards program established in 2005 as the hallmark of excellence in the Asian property sector. These recognitions from PropertyGuru highlight Pilipinas Shell’s successful shift from gas stations to mobility destinations in line with its ambition to achieve net-zero emissions in its operations at pace with society. Del Valle said, “Pilipinas Shell has been in the Philippines for the last 108 years. We remain committed to fulfilling low carbon operations in our Mobility Stations towards our net-zero ambition.”
