Even before the pandemic struck the country, housing is one of the social problems that beset our country. Needless to say, even President Rogrigo Roa Duterte promised to provide decent housing during his campaign, as to whether this was achieved or not only God knows.

But the fact remains that the gap between homeless and having affordable housing that is not a stop-gap filler, but rather a long time solution to the backlog of housing is empirical. The housing program and addressing this issue must also focus on providing sustainable homes as the country continues to fight COVID-19.

The need for more disaster-proof and sustainable housing should be taken with seriousness given the fact that the Philippines is sitting on the typhoon belt of the Pacific Ocean and experiences an average of 20 typhoons every year, at least five of which are destructive. With climate change, more and stronger typhoons have been hitting the country.

Apart from that, the country also lies along the Pacific Ring of Fire where earthquakes and volcanic eruptions are prevalent. The natural disasters caused by these factors and resulting in the destruction of properties contribute to the growing housing backlog across the country, which is 2020 stands at 6.75 million units, according to the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development. The ongoing pandemic further underscores the aggravating housing problem as people stay at home, with thousands crammed in small spaces not ideal for their health and safety.

Answering the social issue

Cognizant of the housing problem of the country, Pueblo de Oro Development Corporation heed this challenge and started its mission to pursue building distinctive and quality but also dignifies the strength and dedication of the Filipino families.

Due to their dedication, one of Pueblo de Oro Development Corporation’s projects the Familia Apartments at Bamboo Lane, recently won the Special-Purpose Development of the Year – Philippines in the Development Awards category of the recently concluded Real Estate Asia (REA) Awards 2021.

Strategically located at the Pueblo de Oro Township in Upper Carmen, Cagayan de Oro, Familia Apartments at Bamboo Lane is an apartment-style condominium complex comprised of four mid-rise buildings. A spin-off from the best-selling Familia Apartment brand line, it is a vertical socialized housing development in Mindanao conceptualized to embody achievement, inclusivity, and modernization.

Being a first of its kind, the project makes a valuable contribution by addressing the housing backlog for the common Filipino. The housing development has attained commercial success while addressing the needs of young families and professionals for quality development that is expediently located near public transportation and modern conveniences.

“At Pueblo de Oro, we aim to achieve inclusivity in the developments that we undertake. It is in this spirit that we wish to enhance the well-being of individuals from all walks of life through the housing projects that we do,” said Pueblo de Oro president Prim Nolido.

Pueblo de Oro continually addresses the modern-day demands of homebuyers as manifested through the Familia Apartments series. It takes pride in ensuring that accessibility and quality are not compromised. The location, aesthetics and amenities of Familia Apartments reflect quality despite being in the socialized housing segment. Through this undertaking, Pueblo de Oro was able to efficiently carve out a prime piece of land in its township development to serve and help improve the quality of life of low-income earners.

Presented by Real Estate Asia magazine, the award recognizes the most innovative real estate developments in Asia Pacific that stand out in the market regardless of a challenging environment. Other winners from the Philippines included Bria Homes, Grand Land, and New San Jose Builders.
