A new production plant of San Miguel Brewery Inc. (SMB) is set to be built in Barangay Gua-an, Leganes, Iloilo with San Miguel Corp. (SMC) President and COO Ramon S. Ang leading the groundbreaking ceremony on September 20.

“We look forward to growing our presence in the Visayas region. This major development is an important part of San Miguel’s current expansion in key regions nationwide,” Ang said in a statement released earlier today, September 9.

“Currently, SMB has two breweries in the Visayas region, the Mandaue and Bacolod breweries, built in 1968 and 1990, respectively,” the same statement said.

Construction of the new SMB production facility will take around two years to complete and, once operational, it will have an initial capacity of one million hectoliters.

Expected to grace the groundbreaking are Sen. Franklin Drilon, Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor Jr., Leganes Mayor Vicente Jaen II, Gua-an Barangay Captain Alberto Capajay Jr., and other local government officials.

“The new Iloilo facility is part of San Miguel’s ongoing capacity expansion program, first announced in 2017, to grow its core business, meet increased demand, and bring economic growth and jobs to key regions nationwide, “ SMC said.

Meanwhile, SMB is set to complete another brewery in Northern Minidanao, specifically in Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental.

In Luzon, SMB will convert its existing Santa Rosa, Laguna bottling facility into a full-fledged brewery. The company is also developing a more efficient distribution system.

“Our aim is to help our nation achieve its development goals by investing in emerging growth areas. With this investment, we hope to help accelerate the region’s overall growth and bring more jobs to our countrymen in the south.” Ang said.

For his part, SMB president Roberto N. Huang said: “This is a significant milestone for our company as we continue to pursue new growth opportunities. Over the long-term, this new facility will allow us to address growing demand and maximize efficiencies throughout the supply chain.”

SMB is the market leader in the beer industry, holding over 95% market share. SMB has breweries strategically located in Valenzuela, Pampanga, Mandaue, Davao del Sur and Bacolod, and a bottling facility in Santa Rosa, Laguna.
