GSIS President and GM Aranas quits

Joann Villanueva

Governmen Service Insurance System (GSIS) President and General Manager Jesus Clint Aranas has resigned, a ranking official of the state workers’ pension fund confirmed on Tuesday.

“He resigned for personal reasons,” GSIS Vice President Marge Jorillo said in a reply to a text message from the Philippine News Agency (PNA).

Aranas was appointed as GSIS head beginning November 2017 after his stint as Deputy Commissioner for legal at the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR).

Recently, he stressed his resolve to sell a 78-hectare property at the Port Area in Manila, which he said is owned by the state pension fund.

He earlier said that there were plans to bid-out the property this year.

Part of the said property is currently occupied by port operator International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI).

Earlier, ICTSI, in a statement, said that what Aranas believes is a title on the property is only for land reclamation granted by former President Ferdinand Marcos through a decree in 1975.

Reports said Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea has said that the Office of the President has received Aranas’ resignation letter. (First published in PNA, July 2, 2019)
