Media professionals honored
in 3rd Ulat SIPAG Awards
The Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-PCAARRD) recently honored five private media professionals through the 3rd Ulat SIPAG Awards.
The awards are divided into two categories: print and broadcast.
For this year’s edition, Agriculture Magazine contributing writer and Panay News columnist Julio P. Yap, Jr. won the first place of the Ulat SIPAG Award, print category. This is Yap’s second year of winning the top award for the said category.
The 2nd place was awarded to Cecilio T. Gunio of Manila Standard, while the 3rd place was awarded posthumously to the late Anselmo S. Roque of Punto! Central Luzon.
Roque’s wife, Corazon C. Roque, received the plaque and the check in behalf of her late husband.
The three awardees were recognized for their outstanding contributions through their articles dealing with the different commodities under PCAARRD’s Industry Strategic S&T Program (ISP).
Under the broadcast category, Dr. Custer C. Deocaris of DZEC 1062 kHz Radyo Agila was awarded the first place.
The second place was awarded to Annabelle D. Surara of DZEC 1062 kHz Radyo Agila.
All five awardees displayed their commitment to the cause of responsible journalism for the interest of the country’s farmers and fisherfolk.
Their articles and radio programs have greatly contributed in improving a great number of lives in the agriculture, aquatic, and natural resources (AANR) sector.
The awards were given during PCAARRD’s 8th Anniversary which was held at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in Pasay City on June 19, 2019.
The Ulat SIPAG Awards is held annually to boost PCAARRD’s branding initiative, which currently focuses on promoting the Strategic Industry (S&T) Program for Agri-Aqua Growth (SIPAG).
