To embrace advancement in technology, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) recently collaborated with Argentina’s IMPSA and tackled the topic of Artificial Intelligence (AI) via video conference.

The main focus of the discussion among the speakers from the DOST, Department of Energy (DOE), and IMPSA included: 1) renewable energy development and policies, 2) AI working methodology, 3) neural networks and genetic algorithms and their application to the industry, 4) AI early detection of anomalies in hydroelectric power plant equipment, and 5) DOST’s initiatives on AI.

In his opening remarks, DOST Secretary Fortunato T. de la Peña expressed optimism that, with AI, we would be able to leverage science, technology, and innovation (STI) while strengthening collaboration in numerous ways to create the best and most relevant solutions possible against current and emerging challenges. He also expressed his belief that these technologies will eventually translate science into real benefits for the people.

Meanwhile, Augusto Cesar Granada, Chargé d’affaires, Embassy of the Argentine Republic, stated that the Embassy stands ready to assist in establishing links between the Philippines and Argentina, particularly in terms of how IMPSA can concretely participate in DOST’s different projects and initiatives and develop a direct interest in IMPSA’s capabilities.

The webinar gathered over 600 attendees from various stakeholders, including representatives from the Argentine Embassy in the Philippines, IMPSA, Philippine Civil Service, particularly those from the Department of Energy (DOE) and the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), private industries and companies, the academe, among others, who share the same commitment to pursue cooperation in the useful application of artificial intelligence.

At the end of the session, both parties from the DOST and IMPSA, remain confident that the cooperation between them will prosper and result in mutual benefits for both countries.
