Today, as the whole world is plagued by COVID-19, and the havoc that created by the pandemic, our journey as Muslims begins in observance of the holiest month in the Islamic calendar, the month of Ramadan.

During the 30 days of Ramadan, approximately 1.8 billion Muslims worldwide (except for the pregnant and the sick) will observe fasting from dawn till dusk, abstaining not just from food but also from water, sex, and evil thoughts.

For all of us Muslims, fasting is an act that connects us to the weak and poor, as part of enforcing social justice. We are commanded to seek them, aid them in charity. Fasting was also practiced by the revered Jesus, as well as by Muslims for generations. We will continue to pray to the Great Allah to end this pandemic and let peace, good health, and prosperity reign Insha’Allah.

We would like to invite everyone to join the Muslim community in a moment of reflection, a moment of silence, a moment of brotherhood, especially in a time such as this when we are all fighting to survive this pandemic.

We also would like to thank all groups, offices, and LGU’s who have offered Ramadan aid in cash and kind to many in need such as the bakwits doubly displaced from Marawi siege and now as vendors in Luzon and NCR.

To my beloved Muslim brethren, let us utilize this time to live in our hearts our faith that is manifested on how we live our life. Let us also strengthen our faith in Allah in the midst of these trying times, and ask for the mercy as we stand united with the weak and hungry.

To all who have suffered and are suffering, we dedicate our fasting for you. May the Almighty ease the pain. And to all who I have hurt in word and deed, forgive me.

Ramadan Mubarak!
