More than stores for pasalubong or gifts where OFWs, Balikbayan and tourists buy, Duty Free Philippines sees another opportunity to support the OFWs, Balikbayans and their family by offering various business opportunities for them thru Duty Free Kabuhayan Package.
Speaking to THEPHILBIZNEWS, Vico Angala, Duty Free Philippines Chief Operating Officer said, “We really want our OFWs and Balikbayan to have a clear vision of where they want to go in terms of career and vision in life. “
“That is why we created this Duty Free Kabuhayan Package. Apart from tax free, we also provide them with the training in managing their own business, depending on their interest and of course budget,” the COO of Duty Free Philippines explained.
“Minsan, kasi they will buy expensive appliances or gadgets, but after a few years, wala na. Out modeled na. Hindi man lang nila na monetize. Nakakapanghinayang, kasi malaking hirap at sakripisyo nila,” Angala added.
“Now with our Kabuhayan Package, whether they are in short vacation or finally decided to stay for good, meron silang maliit na negsoyo. Isang negosyo na pwede nilang palakihin. Ang masaya dito, kasama nila ang pamilya nila,” the Duty Free Philippines official said.
For his part, Dino Belmonte, the Deputy General Manager for Operations of Duty Free Philippine said, “We are aware of the story of our OFWs and Balikbayan falling into trap in some bogus business being promoted online. Nakakalungkot kasi, these people dream of helping their family and earning more, and here they are being preyed on by some people.”
“That is why we at Duty Free Philippines see the need to do something for them. Hindi lang yung bibili sila ng pasalubong, but by empowering them and develop them to enterprising Filipinos. Start small, having the right attitude and having a clear direction kung ano bang plano nila,” Belmonte added.
“With this small business they have makakapagplano sila ng maayos. Hanggang kailan ba sila magtratrabaho, kelan ba sila magdadagdag ng investment nila to expand their business, and they can be assured that Duty Free Philippines will be there for them. Hindi lang sila babalik sa kanilang bayan at pamilya na may unting pasalubong. Babalik sila na may kabuhayan na pwedeng palaguin para sa kanilang magandang kinabuksan.”
“We will train them not with skills but also on what kind of attitude they must posses because we want them to succeed and be with their family” , Duty Free Philippines Deputy General Manager for Operations said in closing.
