San Miguel Corporation (SMC) has cleared a critical stretch of the Alabang River in Muntinlupa City, improving water flow ahead of the rainy season.

Under its Better Rivers PH program, SMC removed 62,363 metric tons of silt and waste—from its mouth at Laguna de Bay to near the PNR Railway Bridge—with works now progressing upstream toward the Alabang Viaduct.

The cleanup, done in coordination with the Department of Public Works and Highways, followed flooding in the area in July 2025. River widening and the removal of obstructions are also underway.

SMC Chairman and CEO Ramon S. Ang said the initiative underscores the company’s long-term commitment to flood mitigation and environmental rehabilitation.

Since 2020, Better Rivers PH has removed over 9.01 million metric tons of waste across at least 10 major river systems, covering 184.33 kilometers nationwide.
