The Jollibee Group has switched its key manufacturing and logistics facilities in the Philippines to 99% renewable electricity sourced from First Gen Corporation, strengthening operational reliability while accelerating its sustainability agenda.

The company is now supplied with 11 megawatts (MW) of geothermal power from First Gen, the country’s leading renewable energy provider. The shift is expected to cut greenhouse gas emissions by more than 70% across covered sites, marking one of the largest renewable energy transitions in the Philippine food manufacturing sector.

The move builds on earlier clean energy investments by the Jollibee Group, including the installation of over 17,000 solar panels with more than 9 MW capacity across commissaries and distribution hubs in Parañaque and Laguna, completed in 2024. A remote energy monitoring system was also deployed to optimize electricity consumption at logistics facilities.

Company leaders and local officials marked the milestone during a ceremonial switch-on held January 29 at the group’s Laguna commissary.

Michael Ong, Jollibee Group President for Manufacturing and Logistics, said the transition provides a long-term energy foundation for the company’s expanding operations.

“Switching our commissaries to 99% renewable electricity enables us to build a sustainable and reliable energy platform for growth. It reduces our environmental footprint while ensuring energy stability that will support our operations well into the future,” Ong said.

Joseph Tanbuntiong, Jollibee Group Philippines CEO and Global Head of the Jollibee brand, said the initiative reflects how operational strategy aligns with corporate purpose as the company scales globally.

“How we power our commissaries matters. Renewable energy ensures our operations remain reliable and consistent as we continue to grow,” he said.

First Gen Chief Customer Engagement Officer Carlo Vega described the partnership as a model for industrial decarbonization.

“The shift to geothermal and solar electricity shows disciplined investment in reliable energy systems that strengthen operations today while supporting future expansion,” Vega said. “We are proud to support Jollibee Group in advancing toward a regenerative energy future.”

Geothermal energy remains the only renewable source in the Philippines capable of providing baseload power, making it particularly suited for large-scale industrial facilities. The transition aligns with global climate goals, including United Nations targets on clean energy and climate action.
