In the wake of the powerful magnitude 6.9 earthquake that struck northern Cebu, Metro Dumaguete Water (MDW) has mobilized urgent relief efforts to aid the hardest-hit municipalities of Tabuelan and San Remigio.
MDW, a joint venture between the Dumaguete City Water District and Metro Pacific Water (MPW), promptly responded to the Cebu Provincial Government’s call for assistance, deploying a water lorry, 220 carboys, and various relief goods to evacuation sites and water-scarce communities.
The relief mission was conducted in coordination with the Dumaguete City Water District and the Negros Oriental Water Districts Association, demonstrating inter-regional solidarity in times of crisis.
“Metro Dumaguete Water is sending its support to our neighbors in Cebu through our water lorry and in-kind donations. Water is especially vital during this phase of immediate recovery. In these difficult times, the power of community is truly important,” said Engr. Robert Cabiles, MDW Chief Operating Officer.
The MDW water lorry has been dispatched to remote barangays where water access has been severely disrupted. It will continue rotating in San Remigio and Bogo City in the coming days to supplement the local water supply and ensure that affected families have access to safe drinking water.
Cabiles also shared that MDW is on standby for additional support operations, depending on the evolving needs of the affected communities. So far, the company has extended ₱100,000 worth of relief assistance.
