In a show of solidarity and care, the Government of Japan, through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), handed over emergency disaster relief assistance to families affected by the 6.9-magnitude earthquake in Cebu Province.

The Arrival and Turnover Ceremony took place at the AVRC Gym, Brgy. Labangon, Cebu City, attended by Ambassador Endo Kazuya, Cebu Governor Pamela S. Baricuatro, DSWD Director Shalaine Marie S. Lucero, and JICA Philippines Chief Representative Baba Takashi.

In support of ongoing relief efforts, Japan provided tents, blankets, plastic sheets, sleeping pads, portable jerry cans, and water purifiers to help thousands of displaced families. Earlier, the Japan Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF) assisted affected communities by transporting relief supplies during the Japan-Philippines bilateral training “DOSHIN BAYANIHAN 5-25.”

“Japan shares in the suffering of our Filipino brothers and sisters in these challenging times, particularly with earthquakes in Cebu, Baguio, and Davao. We are one with you, and we hope to be of service wherever and however we can,” said Ambassador Endo.

Japan has been a steadfast partner of the Philippines, providing disaster and emergency relief in past calamities, including Typhoon Yolanda (2013), Typhoon Odette (2021), the North Luzon Earthquake (2022), and the Mindoro oil spill (2023). The latest assistance underscores Japan’s enduring commitment to helping the Filipino people recover and rebuild in times of need.
