The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) assured its customers of round-the-clock readiness to address power concerns as Typhoon Paolo continues to bring rains across Luzon.
With portions of its franchise area now placed under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1, Meralco said its crews are on full alert to respond swiftly to any service interruptions or emergencies caused by the weather disturbance.
“We advise our customers to exercise extra caution to ensure their safety, as the threat of flooding heightens the risk of electrical accidents,” said Joe R. Zaldarriaga, Meralco Vice President and Head of Corporate Communications.
Meralco also encouraged the public to stay updated through its official advisories and reminded customers to take preventive measures against electrical hazards, particularly in flood-prone areas.
Meralco reiterated the following important safety tips during heavy rains and flooding:
Immediately switch off the main power switch or circuit breaker.
Avoid touching electrical wiring, outlets, and appliances with wet hands or while standing on a damp or flooded surface.
Unplug appliances and turn off permanently connected equipment. If possible, remove light bulbs as well.
Stay away from exposed or dangling electrical wires.
Once floodwaters subside, have a licensed electrician check your electrical system before restoring power.
Meralco stressed that safety should remain the top priority during typhoons and assured the public that its crews are prepared to respond to emergencies as needed.
