The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) has assured customers that it is fully prepared to respond to any power-related issues that may arise from Tropical Depression Isang.
Meralco said its crews are on standby and closely monitoring weather developments to ensure immediate action if service interruptions occur. The company also urged the public to take extra safety precautions, particularly in areas prone to flooding.
“Safety is our top priority, especially during this period when flooding and heavy rains pose greater risks of electrical accidents,” said Meralco Vice President and Head of Corporate Communications Joe R. Zaldarriaga. “We encourage our customers to be extra vigilant this rainy season and to observe safety measures before, during, and after a flood.”
Meralco issued the following safety reminders for customers:
Switch off the main power supply or circuit breaker as soon as floodwaters enter the home.
Ensure hands and surroundings are dry before handling electrical equipment.
Avoid contact with exposed electrical wires.
Unplug appliances and, if possible, turn off permanently connected equipment.
After floodwaters recede, have a licensed electrician inspect electrical systems for water damage.
Never touch circuit breakers or replace fuses with wet hands or while standing on a wet surface.
