The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) is doubling down on its commitment to revolutionize the Philippine retail landscape, according to Secretary Cristina A. Roque, who addressed the 31st National Retail Conference and Expo (NRCE) on Friday, August 1.
In a news release, Roque emphasized the importance of innovation and resilience as the driving forces for growth in the retail sector, pledging the government’s support to ensure the Philippine retail industry remains competitive both locally and globally.
“In line with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive, DTI is leading the charge in enhancing the competitiveness of Philippine industries, with a focus on both local and global markets,” Roque said in her keynote speech. “Our guiding principle has always been ‘Negosyo para sa bawat Pilipino, trabaho para sa tao,’ ensuring every Filipino has the opportunity to prosper and contribute to the nation’s progress.”
Among the key initiatives discussed was the continued support for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), with over 1,400 Negosyo Centers set up nationwide to assist entrepreneurs. Roque also announced the expansion of the Philippine Business Hub’s online platform, which streamlines business registration and processes for ease of access.
In a bid to enhance logistics efficiency, the DTI is preparing to launch a Supply Chain and Logistics Center later this year, aimed at reducing shipping costs across the Philippine archipelago.
Roque also highlighted the recent launch of the Section G Job Blueprint, an employment action plan designed to create job opportunities across the entire retail value chain, from local sari-sari stores to global logistics hubs.
“When we empower retailers, we empower families; and when we empower families, we empower the nation,” Roque stressed, reaffirming the government’s vision of an inclusive, thriving Philippines.
The NRCE gathered top retail leaders, SMEs, and various cross-industry organizations to explore transformative strategies and emerging technologies under this year’s theme, “Retail Game Changers.” The conference provided a platform to discuss the future of the retail sector and the role of innovation in driving growth and sustainability.
Roque’s statements serve as a reminder that the retail industry is crucial to the nation’s economic fabric, and the government’s proactive stance promises a more robust and inclusive retail ecosystem in the Philippines.
