In the bid to invest in the future, Meralco Power Academy (MPA), the energy education unit of Manuel V. Pangilinan-led Manila Electric Company (Meralco), has gathered more than 330 students from 11 schools in the country for the Young Engineers and Scientists Summit (YESS) held in Pasig City.

Themed “Purpose-driven Innovation”, the learning symposium aims to empower and inspire the driven young minds to reshape the future through creativity and bold innovation.

Speakers from New Energy Nexus, Ikigai Philippines, and Meralco provided useful concepts like innovation frameworks, the idea of “ikigai” or “reason for living”, and various opportunities within the power sector to senior high school students who are inclined to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

“The power sector is full of untapped potential, and there is no better time than now for all of you to get involved, explore new avenues, and continue to innovate,” said MPA President Nixon G. Hao (top row, starting 7th from left).

Carasig, Meralco Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Ronnie L. Aperocho, and MPA Executive Director Ian Chester V. Colorina, with the representatives of the participating STEM schools.

“This summit is one of the many initiatives of the Meralco Power Academy, a testament to our commitment to developing Filipinos into the world’s leading power industry talent. We believe that sustainable innovation is the key to a brighter tomorrow, and we are dedicated to fostering the next generation of engineers and scientists who will drive this transformation,” Aperocho, for his part, said.

Among the participating schools and universities in this year’s YESS include La Salle Greenhills, South Mansfield College, National University – Nazareth Schools, Quezon City Science High School, Don Bosco School – Salesian Sisters, Inc., Polytechnic University of the Philippines, Technological University of the Philippines, Mapúa University, St. Scholastica’s Academy Marikina, World Citi Colleges Antipolo City, and Technological Institute of the Philippines.
