In line with its commitment to spread light to more communities, One Meralco Foundation (OMF), the social responsibility arm of Manuel V. Pangilinan-led Manila Electric Company (Meralco), energized 100 homes in Barangay San Isidro, Parañaque City.

Through OMF’s Household Electrification Program (HEP), the beneficiaries now have their own metering center and individual service entrance, giving them their own access to safe electricity to boost their productivity at home and improve their living standards.

EMPOWERED RESIDENTS. Maria Danica Voloso, one of the resident beneficiaries in Silverio Compound in Paranaque City, is hopeful her household can finally save more after gaining her own access to electricity through OMF’s Household Electrification Program.

Maria Danica Voloso, one of the beneficiaries, has been residing in Silverio Compound for 16 years, and since then she gained access to electricity through sub-metering. However, residents like Veloso pay their neighbors at a cost higher compared to that of Meralco’s. Now that her home has its own electricity service, she is hopeful that she can save more.

During the community turnover ceremony, Parañaque City Mayor Eric L. Olivarez noted the importance of the collaboration of the local government and Meralco in bringing the benefits of electrification to the underserved communities.

“Light (electricity) is very important because without it, it would be challenging for us to live in the dark. Light, as in any community, is essential here in Silverio Compound,” Mayor Olivarez said.

OMF’s Household Electrification Program, with the help of Meralco business centers and sectors, has powered more than 76,000 low-income homes in the Meralco franchise area. Since 2011, this initiative has been creating impactful change to its beneficiaries, with some residents being able to start or expand home businesses that augmented their family income.

“Gaining access to proper electric service sparks positive impact in communities. By energizing homes like those in Silverio Compound, we empower more Filipinos and drive productivity to benefit their families. This also directly contributes to the overall progress not just of the immediate community, but of the country,” OMF President and Meralco Chief Corporate Social Responsibility Officer Jeffrey O. Tarayao said.
