The 2024 Pasta Championship Asia Final, hosted by Barilla, marked an exceptional celebration of World Pasta Day at the De La Salle College of Saint Benilde’s School of Hotel, Restaurant, and Institution Management.
In a news release, Barilla said the event showcased top culinary talent from across Asia, bringing together chefs from China, Vietnam, Malaysia, the Philippines, South Korea, India, Japan, and Singapore, each presenting a pasta dish inspired by their unique culinary heritage.
Each finalist’s creation was meticulously evaluated by a distinguished panel of judges, including Andrea Alfieri, Barilla’s Global Food Service Director; Chef Andrea Tranchero, Barilla Executive Chef for the Asia Pacific; the chairperson of Benilde’s Culinary Arts Program; and renowned food journalist Masakatsu Ikeda.
Supported by faculty and students from Benilde, the finalists poured their creativity and expertise into every dish, using pasta as a canvas for innovation and cultural expression.
The awards ceremony honored the top chefs of the competition. Chef Jimmy Loi from Malaysia received the bronze title, Chef Terence Chuah from Singapore was awarded silver, and Chef Seigo Fuchigami from Japan claimed the championship title with his extraordinary pasta creation.
