PH explores partnership with Japan in IT-BPM sector

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) spearheaded a strategic Philippine business mission to Japan to enhance the synergy between the two countries’ information technology-business process management (IT-BPM) industries.

Held from October 23 to 25, the mission featured a business forum and business-to-business session that showcased the competitive strengths of the Philippines’ IT-BPM sector, and facilitated potential partnerships with Japanese companies.

“Through this business mission, we aim to position the Philippines as a premier destination for global IT-BPM investments and partnerships. We thank our partners in the Japanese government and business community for their continued support and collaboration,” said DTI Secretary Cristina A. Roque.

Philippine Ambassador to Japan Mylene Albano also recognized the mission as a vital opportunity to foster seamless partnerships and long-term collaboration, built on the strong cultural affinity between the countries.

“The Philippine government is committed to supporting the growth of the IT-BPM industry through investment-friendly policies, incentives, and infrastructure development, creating a stable and attractive business environment,” Ambassador Albano added.

“The journey ahead may seem daunting, but I am confident that we are capable of rising to meet the challenges. Together, through our collective efforts, we will ensure that the Philippines takes its rightful place in the global marketplace—not just as a participant but as a leader in innovation, creativity, and sustainable development,” Commercial Counselor Ma. Bernardita Angara-Mathay of the Philippine Trade and Investment Center (PTIC) in Tokyo expressed.

Furthermore, this mission reaffirms the adaptability of the Filipino IT-BPM industry and the Philippines’ readiness to deliver high-quality and globally competitive IT-BPM services.

Participating in the mission were 14 Philippine IT-BPM companies, including Accenture Inc., Actionlabs IT Services, Advanced World Systems, Inc., Alliance Software Inc., Altius Inspiro Inc., Asticom Technology Inc., BCS Technology, CXI Services Inc., Exist Software Labs, Inc., SGV & Co., TechShake, TTEC Customer Care Management Philippines Inc., Tsukiden Global Solutions Inc., and WeServ Systems International Inc.

“Our companies have showcased the Philippines’ immense potential to meet the demands of Japan’s rapidly evolving IT landscape. We are confident that these engagements will lead to lasting partnerships and open new avenues for growth,” said IT and Business Process Association of the Philippines (IBPAP) President Jack Madrid.

This strong participation culminated in their attendance at major industry events, including the HDI Conference and the Software Development Expo & Conference (SODEC) during the Japan IT Week.

“We’re already considering booth participation at SODEC for next year to ensure stronger engagement with Japanese partners. This initiative reflects our continued commitment to promoting the Philippine IT-BPM sector on the world stage,” said Philippine Software Industry Association (PSIA) Board Director Ramil Villanueva.

Prior to the forum on October 22, the companies visited Fuji Film and Lawson to gain insights into Japan’s cutting-edge IT practices. On October 24, the delegation also paid courtesy visits to Ambassador Mylene Albano at the Philippine Embassy in Japan and visited the PTIC–Tokyo Office.

Supported by the Tatak Pinoy Program under the DTI Competitiveness and Innovation Group, this initiative was realized through the collaborative efforts of the Export Marketing Bureau, the PTIC-Tokyo, the IBPAP, and the PSIA.
