Malaysia’s foreign minister highlights Phl as a ‘crucial partner’

In commemoration of the 60th diplomatic anniversary with the Philippines, the Embassy of Malaysia in the Philippines hosted a gala dinner celebrating wonderful years of collaboration, mutual respect, and successful partnerships together. 

The said diamond celebration was attended by different diplomats, government officials, business representatives, and members of the media in the Philippines, and the guest of honor of the night made it more special, the Malaysian Foreign Minister, H.E. Dato’ Seri Utama Haji Mohamad Haji Hasan in a reception held at Shangri La, Makati City. 

“Tonight, we reflect on our journey together and we create the future we aim to create,” the Malaysian Foreign Minister said. 

Hasan added that the Malaysia-Philippines partnerships have flourished to different pillars from trade, investment, education, culture, and defense. 

He noted that the Philippines is a ‘crucial partner’ to Malaysia such as in trade, he cited how Malaysian companies create jobs and foster innovations in both countries. The envoy also expressed the importance of maritime security, closely working together as neighbor-nations. 

“I’m also delighted to announce that Maybank will be opening its first Islamic bank branch in Zamboanga at the end of this month,” he stated. 

Emphasizing how both countries need to adapt to new challenges and technological advancements, he said that the diamond jubilee between the two countries must also be a time to look to the future. He also reiterated how both Malaysia and the Philippines have stood the test of time and global transformation. 

“I’m confident that by working together, Malaysia and the Philippines can lead by example championing sustainable development and innovation in our region. This celebration is not just about looking back at our achievements, it is also about renewing our commitment to a shared future,” the Malaysia’s foreign minister added.

As Malaysia will chair the ASEAN 2025, the envoy hopes to continue closely working with the Philippines aiming “to promote peace, prosperity, and stability” in the region.
