The British Chamber of Commerce Philippines joined the recent celebration of 126th Philippine Independence Day hosted by the Philippine Embassy in London alongside Ambassador Teodoro Locsin Jr., Philippine Ambassador to the UK. This event reinforced the growing bilateral ties in the diplomatic and business community
“I was able to attend the 126th Independence Day reception by the Philippine Embassy. It just reinforces the work that we do. We work closely as I said with the Department of Trade and Industry in the Philippines, with a lot of government departments, also the Department of Finance. We also have very close links with the Philippine Embassy in London, with the trade section led by Michelle Sanchez. It was great to see the Philippine and British business community celebrating together in London, the 126th Independence Day and reinforcing the close ties between the two countries.”
Previously, Nelson also conducted a recent visit to the Philippine Embassy in London and presented the British Chamber’s key priorities to the Third Secretary and Vice Consul Bea Martinez and Kristine Nobleza of the Philippine Trade and Investment Center London, as part of its consistent efforts in maintaining close ties between the UK and the Philippines.
In light of the upcoming UK elections, Nelson remains optimistic that each party identifies boosting trade and investment as its key priorities and forecasted that regardless of the election results, the UK and the Philippine diplomatic and trade relations will continue to grow.
“I think the economy is foremost and in that respect, how people will feel who can grow the economy best and manage inflation and get us into a growth target for the UK. In terms of policy particularly for the UK and the Philippines, I only see that continuing to grow. I think regardless—if you see at this particular moment, relationships in the UK and the Philippines, I’d say they are at an all-time high, as is the trade balance,” Nelson said.
“I think that whoever is the winner, the Philippines, UK trade and investment will continue to grow. It’s currently the 59th largest trading partner of the UK and I see a lot of opportunities for it going further,” Nelson also emphasized.
The British Chamber continues to engage with its partners in the government and the private sector to push forward the UK-Philippines’ growing trade relations and further represent the increasing British business community in the Philippines—reiterating its advocacy in supporting the government in making the Philippines an investment destination in the region.
