The word “refinement” is defined as the improvement or clarification of something by the making of small changes. This considered approach also epitomizes how Orica Philippines empowers its people to build their careers and help shape a positive and prosperous future for the world at large.

With over 50 years in the country, Orica Philippines has long believed in the power of people to lead change. It utilizes a global network of over 100 countries to enable people to grow and learn in a diverse, collaborative culture. This unique strength connects future shapers with experts across various disciplines and places them at the forefront of new technology and thinking that sparks innovation from customer experiences to community impact.

Grow Together

This wealth of opportunities has enabled many Orica Philippines team members to build and sustain meaningful careers, especially in a job landscape that has undergone serious changes in recent years. Marc Obra has seen those opportunities firsthand and used them to create new avenues for both his personal and career development. Having been with Orica Philippines since 2012, Marc got his start with the technical team and starred in various technical, operations, and business development roles before landing his current position as a Territory Manager for Surface Metals accounts.

This string of strong performances has led to an opportunity for Marc in the QLD Coal division of the Orica Australia office. Asked on how Orica’s work environment has impacted his knowledge and skills to take on his new role, Marc credits how Orica’s wealth of experience helped uplift his entire team’s capabilities in providing solutions to their partners.

To this day, Marc sees Orica’s collaborative spirit as a unique strength, saying that collaboration instills confidence, knowing that there is always someone backing team members to help them address the needs of partners and the industry.

With a new opportunity ahead of him, Marc highlights Orica’s commitment to upskilling and placing people in the best places to find continued success within the organization. “I cannot think of any employer that will make you feel safe, respected, included, confident, and future-proof, other than Orica.”

Shape Together

With a worldwide talent pool of over 12,000 innovators, the talent pool at Orica Philippines mirrors the diversity the company proudly upholds. Here, innovators are nurtured and put into positions where they can thrive and deliver meaningful outcomes that extend beyond the industry, customers, and communities.

Charina “Ynah” Blanca’s journey at Orica Philippines is a testament to how inclusive leadership creates a positive impact. Starting out as a graduate engineer in 2013, Ynah has established herself through various operational and commercial roles before taking a Senior Site Supervisor role in 2021 where she helps lead business development for the local office’s quarry business. These defining experiences have also led to an opportunity for Ynah in the technical team of Orica Australia’s QLD Coal division.

With the longstanding perception of the industry as a predominantly male field, Ynah sees Orica’s constant efforts to break the stereotype. “Orica Philippines’ commitment to diversity in action includes the training and development of female leaders in the Operations and Technical Services which used to be male dominated. Another significant effort is the consistent reinforcing of diversity and inclusion policies to ensure a safe and respectful work environment for all employees.”

Ynah sees this commitment to championing greater diversity, equity, and inclusion across the company as pivotal in helping her advance her career goals. As she embarks on a new challenge, she offers words of advice for any woman looking to start or continue their career with Orica. “My advice would be to foster a growth mindset. Embrace the challenges and learnings. Continuously improve and demonstrate your willingness to take on new responsibilities. These things will help you grow professionally.”

Spark Together

Our team members at Orica Philippines reflect how every person can benefit from an environment that pursues innovation, cultivates pioneering thinking, and inspires action. This “together we succeed” mentality is not just a value. It’s our commitment to enabling people to shape the future into a more diverse, inclusive, and equitable place for people to live, work, and thrive.
