With King Charles III officially crowned as King of the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth realms – the first UK coronation in 70 years last May 6, 2023.

Prior to this historical event, British Chamber of Commerce Philippines’ Executive Director/Trustee Chris Nelson shared some insights in an interview with a news outlet on how this will improve the relationship between the UK and the Philippines.

With over 2,000 people invited to attend King Charles III’s coronation, it reinforces the relevance of the monarchy as it highlights British culture, traditions, and history.

Nelson shared how President Marcos Jr. and the first lady’s attendance also signifies the strengthened relationship between the UK and the Philippines.

“Let’s not forget there are a number of world leaders so the opportunity to at least engage is highlighted; so I think the benefits to highlight for the UK are definitely there,” he said.

The British Chamber also looks forward to continuing the strong trade and investment relations between both countries, particularly in further liberalising the Philippine market.

Further, many Filipinos joined the public screening of the coronation ceremony of King Charles III from Westminster Abbey in London at Quezon City Circle, which was organised by the British Embassy Manila
