The Czech Embassy Manila is bringing to the Philippines a marvelous guitarist and gifted composer Lukáš Sommer, one of the leading personalities in the current generation of young Czech musicians.
Lukáš Sommer graduated from the Academy of Performing Arts where he studied composition under Professor Ivan Kurz. He is the author of more than forty opuses for different works. In addition to orchestral music (e.g., the Cantata Thorns in a Veil, Concerto for Harp and Orchestra, Monolith for Wind Orchestra and Percussion, Concerto for Orchestra, and others), Sommer focuses on chamber music (e.g., Two String Quartets, Piano Trio „Xcape„, Labyrinth – a Sonata for Harpsichord, the Gypsy and the Odyssey).
Mr. Sommer has developed a unique guitar technique which is derived partly from the school of classical guitar, and partly from the philosophy of yoga and meditation. In addition to classical concerts, Mr. Sommer has engaged in interdisciplinary and multi-genre projects.
In Manila, Mr. Sommer will also perform in the newly-open Museum of Natural History of the Philippines in Manila to celebrate the Month of Cultural Heritage on 6 May.
