Acer Philippines takes pride for keeping the No. 1 spot for the past 10 years in the PC market despite the presence of aggressive competitors.

In the data presented during the press conference on February 26, held at Shangri-La The Fort Hotel, by International Data Corporation (IDC), a global market intelligence firm. Maciek Gornicki, the Client Devices Research Manager said, “The Philippines PC Market Overview revealed that of the 2.45 million total personal computer shipments in the Philippines in 2018, 20% or approximately 490,000 units are accounted for Acer, topping its hardware and electronic counterparts from other competitors.”

Even Sue Ong Lim, Acer Philippines’ Sales and Marketing Director when interviewed by The Philippine Business and News on the sideline said that “maintaining the No. 1 spot in the PC market in the Philippines was not an served in a silver platter. Acer has many competitors that are equally great.”

“However, whatever we achieved in the past 10 years which we hope to continue to sustain is a product of teamwork. Acer will continue to be innovative and explore other avenues of partnerships and build excellent relationship with our business partners like our dealers, retail partners and also other stakeholders”, the Acer Philippines Sales and Marketing Director added.

The competitive edge of Acer is it has been very abreast with the market trend. Acer studies the market carefully and ensure they are there to serve the market that others do not see. From gaming PCs which has a growth of more than 200% in sales, plus the emerging trend of educational institution using the Acer technology and the digitalization of many businesses and government institutions are in the radar of Acer Philippines.

Interestingly, Acer also ranked top spot in the country as the leading brand in terms of Notebook PC unit shipments since 2006 with 26% market share as of 2018.

Meanwhile, Acer Philippines’ Managing Director Manuel Wong said, “Acer will continue to work hard to maintain our leadership not just in PC market but even in other categories. Through the years, our research and development team will ensure that we will always take a lead especially in optimizing whatever technology is needed in the market which others do not see as opportunity.”

“This is what Acer has been known for innovation through our continued research and development. And whatever we have achieved now and in the past, we continue to thank all our loyal clients, and new clients who continue to trust Acer. These milestones that Acer Philippines have been holding in the past 10 years, is all because of them”, the Acer Philippines Chief said in closing.

Currently, Acer is leveraging its strong brand positioning at the forefront, the Philippines attracts expansive headroom for growth with a low PC penetration rate of 7% compared to developed economies. While NCR drives the volume at 60% of total Acer sales, the report showed Visayas, Mindanao, and South Luzon as the fastest growing regions as the country pushes for an inclusive national economic growth.

The Philippine Consumer market is dominated by Notebooks accounting for 73% of Consumer PC shipments in 2018 while the Commercial market remains a Desktop domain taking 70% of the total Commercial PC shipments share.

In the report of IDC, it also identified growth opportunities in specific market segments such as Ultraslim Notebooks and Gaming devices, which Acer capitalizes with its Swift 5 and Swift 7 series – their lightest and thinnest laptops to date – and Predator, their PC Gaming line.

Innovating Education

The IDC report also mentioned government projects and ongoing digitization will continue to boost PC demand in SMB and education space, while private sector will continue to invest in PCs as the economy grows.

Acer continues to strengthen its efforts in these spaces by partnering with institutions, government units, and the education sector. Its solid commercial portfolio is the key driver for its Commercial business growth with constant development of customizable options maximizing the latest technologies to meet different business requirements.

The demand of the education sector in Acer’s ongoing efforts has also bolstered the company’s position by continuously transforming the current Philippine education landscape to digital through its Acer Academy program.

One of the efforts is its partnership with schools across the country wherein Acer supplies Chromebooks to provide students access to world-class education at an affordable price. This forms part of its commitment to help improve education through technology.

Acer holds a strong vision for the future and sets the tone that the “best is yet to come.” Among its plans for the next months are to grow its Consumer, Commercial & Enterprise, and Gaming sectors.
