The revolutionary icon takes a leap, joining the sustainable drive line-up

Recreational Active Vehicle with 4-wheel Drive – that’s what RAV4 stood for. First introduced to the world almost three decades ago, it pioneered a new type of vehicle, embracing new technologies and creating a whole new market for compact, agile, and versatile SUV ideally designed for modern life. It single-handedly created the compact sports utility vehicle segment, bridging what was then a gap between traditional off-road and regular passenger vehicles. It was unique, a favored height, ground clearance, and a robust look of a four-wheel-drive. Since then, it has reshaped the automotive marketplace.

In 2020, the RAV4 has joined the top spots of Toyota models to have achieved a milestone of surpassing 10,000,000 sales globally over the course of 26 years and over five iterations since it was launched. Over time, the world gradually fell in love with it and later on achieved a following that is stronger than ever.

In the Philippines, the RAV4 has been a constant challenger in its segment. Driven by the principle of Kaizen, or continuous improvement, it only bettered itself to achieve quality, performance, and practicality. And this year, the RAV4 takes the stage again, and this time, it is evolving into something much more purposeful.

Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) is excited to announce the official arrival of the New RAV4 Hybrid. Posing an invitation to evolve everyone’s drive, this SUV is equipped with exciting upgrades, including a Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) system, all well fitted inside the design customers have enjoyed and loved.

“The rapid succession of Toyota’s HEV model introductions in the country are an indicator that Hybrid cars are now mainstream. Filipinos are ready for energy efficient mobility options with less emissions, and Hybrids offer choices that are practical and ready to use in our existing infrastructure and road conditions,” said Sherwin Chualim, TMP’s First Vice President for Vehicle Sales Operations.

The New RAV4 HEV comes in two variants LTD and XLE, each carrying a set of features that fit the driver’s need. Under the hood, it houses a 16-Valve DOHC, 4-Cylinder, In-line with VVT-iE for intake, and VVT-I for exhaust, with a displacement of 2,487cc, coupled with a Hybrid system that dynamically works together for fuel efficiency and reduced emissions.

It also sports MacPherson Strut and Double Wishbone suspensions developed under the Toyota New Global Architecture program, that helps optimize ride and handling performance. It works together with the 18” (LTD) or 17” (XLE) alloy wheel that exudes the sporty look the RAV4 is known for.

At the swing of the door, drivers are welcomed with an illuminated entry system; followed by a view of the gleaming design that guarantees to stand out thanks to its premium interiors that ensure class and comfort in every drive. At the center of it all is a 7” Display Audio with 6-speaker output and is compatible with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, all for a complete entertaining experience while driving. While in the talks of connectivity, it also has a wireless charger for a tangle-free phone management.

Sustainability and safety go hand in hand with the New RAV4 Hybrid. With Toyota Safety Sense included, it helps drivers avoid potentially dangerous situations and keep everyone secure. These features consist of Pre-Collision System, Automatic High Beam, Lane Tracing Assist, Lane Departure Alert, and Dynamic Radar Cruise Control. The LTD variant comes with a Blind Spot Monitor, which gives an extra set of eyes on nearing vehicles, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert that notifies the driver whenever someone passes at the back while reversing. Both variants come pre-installed with a camera with Panoramic View Monitor for the LTD, and Back Guides for the XLE.

Like the rest of the hybrid line-up, the RAV4 Hybrid is a practical entry point towards electrification. With its self-charging electric battery, there’s no need to worry about the car running out of power or getting stranded. When the car’s battery runs low, it automatically switches to gas motor and goes on to charge the battery without needing to be plugged into an outlet. The gas motor kicks in only when needed (such as in power-demanding road conditions). This makes for an added environmental benefit as there’s less need to charge and consume electricity. Plus, the RAV4’s hybrid battery comes with an 8-year warranty.

The adoption of the HEV products remains to be TMP’s priority as electrified vehicles can only make a more positive impact through widespread use. The introduction of RAV4 HEV makes a case for the expanding line-up to cater varying needs of the market. This also aligns with Toyota President Akio Toyoda’s mission to contribute to the preservation of the environment, producing happiness to everyone.

This is driven by the Toyota Environmental Challenge 2050, which aims to achieve zero CO2 emissions and a net positive environmental impact. The six challenges initiated encompass Toyota’s entire operations, from the manufacture of new vehicles to plant emission, entire vehicle life cycle, water usage optimization, recycling technologies and systems, and connecting nature conservation activities.

The New Toyota RAV4 Hybrid is available in a wide range of colors, each for the LTD and XLE Variant, and starts at PHP2,157,000 retail price.
