Around 900,000 data of Cebuana Lhuillier clients have been compromised after the company revealed that their email servers was affected by a data breach. The data that is affected are those being used for marketing purposes.
According to statement released by Cebuana Lhuillier AVP for Corporate Communications Richard Villaseran, the transactions were not affected but only the data on birthday, address and source of income.
“We recently discovered a data breach which affected our email server that is used for marketing purposes. The information of around 900,000 clients was affected. Some of these information included birthdays, addresses and source of income,” it added.
However, the Cebuana Lhuillier official assured that their company will protect the interests of their clients by adhering to the strict security protocol and also added that the main servers remain “safe and protected” despite the incident.
Currently, Cebuana Lhuillier is doing its own investigation now on the incident of data breach in coordination with the National Privacy Commission.
Apart from this, they also said that they already sent an email to their clients informing them of the data breach.
“We are committed to ensure the data privacy of our clients and adhere to strict security protocols in protecting our interests,” it said.
The Philippine Business and News communicated with Villaseran, Cebuana Lhuillier’s Corporate Communication Head to verify some information that the data breach has affected more than 1M clients based on the number of clients of their company.
But Villaseran clarified that only the isolated email marketing server that was affected and not the main server of their company that remains to be protected, secured and uncompromised.
