On May 18, 2021, Spark! Philippines, joined with the Provincial Government of Bohol, Baji Arts Collective, Dalareich, the Swedish Embassy Manila, the British Embassy Manila, and the Philippine Commission on Women, held an event that amplified the voices of stakeholders through a forum that explored concrete measures against gender-based violence in Bohol.

The launch was opened by Ambassador Harald Fries of the Embassy of Sweden in Manila by giving the opening remarks. It was followed by the giving of rationale by Atty. Alma “Kins” Aparece of Baji Arts Collective. Vice President Leni Robredo gave the keynote message through a pre-recorded video that was shown during the event. The host for the launch was Pauline Amelinckx, Miss Universe Philippines 2020, 3rd runner up. The Panelists were PLT Mildred P. Tag-amo, Ms. Janice Sofia Talip, Hon. Frans Gelaine Garcia, and Mr. Rey Enviado. The reactors were Hon. Virgilio Mendez, Dr. Maria Azucena Quiwag-Redillas, and Atty. Zyra Mae Cuevas. Ms Sandy Montano, Ms. Maica Teves, Mr Alastair Totty, and Atty. Kathryin Pioquinto gave their partner messages as well. To close the launch, Governor Arthur C. Yap of the Province of Bohol gave his closing remarks.

The campaign shed light on the manifestations of unequal power dynamics between men and women—emphasizing the importance of equality and empowering people of diverse gender identities.

#RespetoNamanBohol worked to create a safe space for victims and survivors to be heard and to be able to share their stories. It also hoped to break the silence surrounding the the factors that lead to violence against women such as sexist and misogynistic attitudes, patriarchal views, and other socio-cultural, legal, economic and political realties.

#RespetoNamanBohol live streamed the Tokador Exhibit and a discussion among key leaders from different institutions. The speakers and reactors shared their insights and observations regarding experiences of gender-based violence in Bohol. They highlighted interventions through policy and community action. Most importantly, they affirmed the practice of respect, awareness, and solidarity, as these attitudes counter prevalent and age-old injustices.

This event was created by Spark! Philippines, a SEC-registered NGO that advocates for the political, economical, and social empowerment of women and diverse genders as a way to facilitate societal change.
