The Embassy of Malaysia in Manila hosted a special Iftar gathering for members of the media, highlighting the enduring friendship between Malaysia and the Philippines and the importance of people-to-people exchanges between the two nations.

In his welcome remarks, Ambassador Dato’ Abdul Malik Melvin Castelino expressed his appreciation to members of the Philippine media for joining the Embassy in breaking the Ramadan fast and for their continued support in fostering closer ties between the two countries.
“Your presence truly honors us, and we deeply appreciate your continued friendship and support,” the ambassador said, noting that the gathering reflected the shared values of kindness, generosity, and inclusivity that transcend cultural and religious differences.

The ambassador emphasized that Ramadan is a time not only for fasting but also for cultivating empathy, gratitude, and solidarity with others, values that resonate across cultures and faiths. Events such as the Iftar, he said, strengthen bonds of friendship and provide opportunities to deepen understanding among communities.
He also underscored Malaysia’s commitment to inclusivity and shared prosperity through initiatives such as Wakaf (Islamic endowments), which help fund education, healthcare, and community development programs that benefit diverse communities regardless of religion or background.

Addressing the role of the media, Ambassador Castelino highlighted its importance in building bridges between societies and shaping narratives that promote cooperation and mutual understanding.
“This gathering is not only an opportunity to break the fast together but also a valuable platform to deepen partnerships, exchange perspectives, and strengthen meaningful collaboration,” he said.
The ambassador also encouraged support for Visit Malaysia Year 2026, a national tourism campaign that aims to showcase the country’s vibrant multicultural heritage, rich culinary traditions, eco-tourism destinations, and the unique cultural experience of Ramadan bazaars.

As part of efforts to further strengthen community engagement and cultural exchange, the ambassador invited members of the media to participate in the preparation of Bubur Lambuk, a traditional Ramadan porridge symbolizing volunteerism and generosity, at his residence.
The Embassy noted that gatherings such as the Iftar highlight the growing people-to-people connections between Malaysians and Filipinos, reinforcing the strong diplomatic and cultural ties shared by the two nations.
