Japan and the Philippines on January 15 signed an agreement that will strengthen defense cooperation by enabling the reciprocal provision of supplies and services between the two countries’ armed forces.
Japanese Foreign Minister Motegi Toshimitsu and Philippine Secretary of Foreign Affairs Maria Theresa Lazaro signed the Acquisition and Cross-Servicing Agreement (ACSA) in Manila.
The agreement establishes a framework and settlement procedures allowing Japan’s Self-Defense Forces and the Armed Forces of the Philippines to provide logistical support to one another, including supplies and services, during joint activities and operations.
Officials said the ACSA will ensure the smooth and timely exchange of logistical support, enhance interoperability, and deepen defense ties between the two countries. The agreement is also expected to support broader efforts to promote peace and security in the region and the international community.
