Globe Telecom is reinforcing network resiliency in the typhoon-prone South Luzon and Bicol regions through the rollout of sustainable Battery Charging Hubs, a move aimed at keeping mobile and internet services running amid prolonged power outages caused by severe weather.
These regions often experience extended commercial power interruptions after typhoons, leading to service disruptions. The new hubs address this challenge by ensuring backup batteries that power cell sites remain in optimal condition. The facilities enable faster testing, recharging, and replacement of batteries—minimizing downtime and helping maintain reliable connectivity during emergencies.
The initiative is particularly critical for communities frequently affected by strong storms, where communication is essential for work, learning, and staying connected with family. By keeping cell sites operational, the hubs help ensure continuity of essential services when they are needed most.
“Connectivity is a vital part of people’s everyday lives. That is why we strive to keep our cell sites operational, especially when disasters strike. We’re making sure that communities can count on Globe to stay connected no matter the situation,” said Joel Agustin, Senior Vice President for Network Planning and Engineering at Globe.
Battery Charging Hubs are now operational in San Pablo, Laguna, and Batangas, with deployment underway in Pili, Camarines Sur. Additional facilities are being prepared in Mindoro, Palawan, Marinduque, and Romblon.
Each hub can refresh multiple batteries weekly, ensuring a ready supply of fully charged units for rapid deployment. Globe has also trained personnel across locations to manage battery recovery and maintenance, detect potential issues early, and prevent service interruptions.
Beyond resiliency, the initiative supports Globe’s broader sustainability agenda. As the company scales up the use of renewable energy across its operations, the Battery Charging Hubs contribute to a more energy-efficient and environmentally responsible network.
