SAIC Motor Philippines Inc. (SMPI), the official distributor of MG vehicles in the country, has announced a leadership transition, with Wei Wei Zhang appointed as the new President of MG Philippines, succeeding Felix Jiang, who will take on a new role with MG Australia.

Jiang, the pioneering president of SMPI, led the company for the past three years and played a pivotal role in establishing MG as a strong contender in the Philippine automotive market. Under his leadership, MG Philippines achieved record-breaking sales in 2024, secured segment leadership in the 1.5-liter sedan category, and consistently ranked among the top 10 automotive brands nationwide.

During his tenure, MG Philippines also rolled out its widest product portfolio to date, spanning petrol and diesel internal combustion engines, hybrid vehicles, and fully electric models. This expansion, combined with innovative product launches and a strengthened nationwide dealer network, helped solidify the MG brand’s market presence.

Wei Wei Zhang brings extensive regional leadership experience to his new role. Prior to his appointment, he served as President of MG Indonesia and later joined SAIC Motor’s ASEAN Partner Group at its Shanghai headquarters, where he oversaw strategic initiatives across Southeast Asian markets. His background is expected to support MG Philippines’ continued growth amid intensifying competition in the local automotive sector.

“We are deeply grateful to Mr. Jiang for his visionary leadership and the strong foundation he built for MG Philippines,” said Karl Magsuci, Vice President of MG Philippines. “We are equally confident that Mr. Zhang’s regional expertise and strategic insight will guide the brand into its next phase of growth, reinforcing our commitment to innovative and sustainable mobility solutions.”

The leadership transition underscores SAIC Motor’s continued focus on growth, innovation, and long-term commitment to the Philippine automotive market. MG Philippines reiterated its dedication to offering a comprehensive lineup—from internal combustion engine vehicles to hybrid and electric models—tailored to the evolving preferences of Filipino motorists.
