The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) has placed its operations on full alert to ensure uninterrupted and safe electricity service during the Christmas holiday break.
Meralco said its crews and technical personnel will be on standby 24/7, including on Christmas Day, to promptly address any power-related concerns and keep the lights on for its more than 8 million customers across its franchise area.
“We encourage our customers to do their part in ensuring a safe and joyful holiday season by practicing electrical safety. Rest assured that contingency measures are in place, and our crews are fully prepared to respond to any possible electricity service concerns,” said Joe R. Zaldarriaga, Meralco Vice President and Head of Corporate Communications.
To help prevent fire incidents and electrical accidents during the festive season, Meralco advised customers to unplug Christmas lights and appliances when not in use or before going to sleep, carefully inspect decorative lights for cracked, frayed, or damaged wires before reuse, and avoid using nails or thumbtacks when installing lights as these may damage wiring. Customers were also reminded to refrain from “octopus” connections or plugging multiple extension cords into one another, which can overload outlets and cause fires, and to keep a working fire extinguisher at home as a basic safety precaution in case of emergencies.
Meralco Business Centers will be closed on Christmas Eve (December 24) and Christmas Day (December 25). However, customers may still report electricity service concerns through the MyMeralco app, Meralco’s official social media accounts on Facebook and X (@meralco), by texting 0920-9716211 or 0917-5516211, or by calling the Meralco Hotline at 16211.
