Guided by its overarching sustainability agenda, Powering the Good Life—anchored on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs)—the Manila Electric Company (Meralco), led by Manuel V. Pangilinan, continues to embed sustainability within its operations through the PowerPlants Urban Farming Program.

The initiative transforms Meralco office facilities into productive green hubs that promote employee well-being, environmental stewardship, and shared responsibility. Now operating in 17 locations—including the company’s headquarters, business centers, and sector offices—PowerPlants has mobilized more than 160 employee volunteers and benefited nearly 500 individuals through the regular harvest and distribution of fresh produce.

This year, Meralco further expanded the program’s reach by strengthening partnerships with Quezon City local government units, co-developing urban farms in Barangays Talayan, Bahay Toro, and West Kamias. These collaborative projects extend Meralco’s sustainability efforts beyond its facilities, supporting food security in surrounding communities while reinforcing the company’s role as a responsible corporate citizen.

With additional sites in the pipeline and new volunteer activities underway, PowerPlants demonstrates how sustainability at Meralco starts from within, grows outward into communities, and contributes to powering a better, more sustainable life for all.
