Taiwan is becoming an increasingly popular study destination for Filipino students, as demonstrated by the 2026 OCAC Taiwan Education Expo held on November 21 at the Fil-chi Cultural & Economic Association in Manila, which drew over 250 students and parents seeking academic and technical training opportunities abroad. The two-day expo, organized by the Culture Center of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in the Philippines, featured 18 Taiwanese universities and technical institutions, offering detailed information on overseas compatriot student programs, scholarship opportunities, industry-academia collaborations, and Mandarin-language support systems.

Dignitaries present at the opening included Minister Dustin Teng-shi Yang of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office, Director Jaybee C. Ruiz of the Manila Economic and Cultural Office, Executive Director Jasper Huang of the Fil-chi Cultural & Economic Association, and Director Eric Po-chih Chuang of the Culture Center. Minister Yang introduced two major OCAC programs for Filipino students, including the 3+4 Vocational Education Program and the Four-Year OYVTP Bachelor’s Degree, noting that both combine academic study with practical training to improve career prospects and encouraged students to strengthen their Mandarin proficiency.

Director Ruiz emphasized Taiwan’s appeal to Filipino learners, saying that the expo allows students to access information directly from Taiwanese schools and inquire on the spot about programs and application processes. Executive Director Huang highlighted Taiwan’s safe environment, cultural openness, and strong academic system as key factors that make it an ideal study destination, while Director Chuang outlined the structure and benefits of OCAC programs, including supportive learning environments and robust industry partnerships.

The expo further strengthened educational ties between Taiwan and the Philippines, providing Filipino students with expanded pathways for higher education and professional growth while showcasing Taiwan’s world-class academic and vocational training opportunities.
